Thom Yorke ~ A Caricature Study

Tonight I have a manipulated caricature study of Thom Yorke, an English musician with some unique characteristics. This was just an experimental manipulation. I tried to get a little warp in his face like Russ Cook often does. Mine is not nearly as good as his but I'm studying his work among others like Sebastian Kruger and Jason Seiler. I would love to take some formal lessons. Anyway I've posted the original source image I worked with below.

Sneak Peak ~ FHM Commission ~ Mystery Mouths

This evening I'm posting a sneak peak at the commission job I did for FHM Magazine. It's a Muzzle Puzzle or Mystery Mouths. Kind of a game to see how smart you are. There are 6 mouths in all but only 5 are from the caricatures done for the job. Can you guess who the celebrities are and who doesn't belong? Feel free to comment and ask any questions you may have.

I hope you enjoyed. Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Ronaldinho Gaúcho

Tonight I have another one for the soccer fans. This is the second time I've done Ronaldinho, but he is a really good subject and I thought it was time to give a little something to the footballers. I've posted the original source images I worked with below.

Martin Lawrence ~ BAD BOYS III

Tonight I took a caricature of Martin Lawrence I started the other day and finished it. I couldn't figure out how I was going to use it because of the turning of the head. Well I found one of his movies that fit well, so I did a spoof on the movie "Bad Boys II" and called it "Bad Boys III ~ Scared Sh%tless". I also included Barack Obama and Mel Gibson as Co-Stars. I enjoy doing spoofs like this. Martin is a great subject. I am posting the original source images below so you can see what I worked with.

Comedian ~ Tracy Morgan

I started this caricature too late last night to finish. I just didn't have enough energy to stay late another night. I chose comedian Tracy Morgan for this post and I've done a full body caricature. This one took a little longer than some because I had to manipulate his body a lot. I've posted the original source images below for comparison.

Comedian ~ Martin Lawrence

Tonight I decide to pick on comedian Martin Lawrence. He makes some great faces. This wasn't the best expression so I changed it a bit and added the body pose. I'm not sure if I did it any good but I gave it a shot. I actually found a much better image of Lawrence after I was into this one so I will have another one of him soon with a more typical Martin Lawrence expression. I've posted the original source photo below.

Featured Artist ~ Russ Cook

Click image to visit Russ Cook's blog

Tonight I'm featuring one of my all time favorite artists and one of the most talented caricature artists in the world and one of my biggest inspirations. Russ Cook is a illustrator and caricature artist from Oxford, UK. He has a unique caricature style like nothing you have ever seen and can be viewed on his blog by clicking on the image above or the link at the bottom of this post. Cook pushes his caricatures to the absolute limit with exaggeration. His "morph" in his words is so extreme in some cases that you would think the subject would be rendered unrecognizable but no matter the amount of almost outrageous exaggeration, he manages to capture the essence of his subjects. A truly unique style of art is hard to come by but this artist's work is like none other. His work will amaze and inspire you.

I would like to tell you more about this brilliant artist but he's a modest man and it's impossible to find a bio on him. I can however offer you an awesome interview with Russ Cook by VectorTutsPlus.com. You can also find links on his blog to more of his portfolio sites. Below you will find a very few of Cook's works which will give you a taste of his incredible talent, but you will definitely want to visit his blog to get a better look at this diverse collection of works.
I hope you enjoyed this inspiring sampling of the art of Russ Cook. Please take a moment and visit his blog at the link below.

Hugh Laurie ~ House MD

I decided to do a more complete photo manipulation today. I played around with these images of Hugh Laurie (House) yesterday so I thought I would do a full body caricature and put it in a setting. I worked on this most of the day today off and on. I've also posted the original source images below. Please view it in full. I put a good bit of time in on the details. Hope you like it.

Presidential Briefing ~ A Head Transplant

Tonight I'm posting a photo manipulation that I revised today. This was a Freak Show contest entry at FreakingNews.com. I was never satisfied with the image for a few reasons. Somehow it still took gold. I didn't like the Obama head caricature, so I swapped it out today and I did a little touch-up work, adjusted some colors, the levels, saturation, highlights, shadows etc. It's not my best work but I think it's a bit more presentable now.

Comedian Lewis Black ~ A Late Christmas Carol

I was looking through my photo collection tonight and ran across this image of Comedian Lewis Black. This guy is a natural. I really didn't have to exaggerate that much. I worked as much on his body as I did his face. He makes some really funny faces, perfect to caricature. I'm including the original source photo I worked with below for comparison and a late Christmas video featuring Lewis Black. He can get pretty foul mouthed at times but this one is petty mild. He's a real nut case. I hope you enjoy!

Tom Cruise

Well, I'm finished with the FHM Men's magazine job so I'm back to my daily routine now. I will post all 5 caricatures as soon as the magazine gives me an ok. For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, I was commissioned to do five caricatures of celebrities to be named later with one as a two page spread. They will print a five-image story about certain types of celebrities, (caricatured by me) which I was fortunate enough to have been chosen to do. It's an awesome opportunity for me and will hopefully open some doors down the line. FHM has a monthly subscription of 1.25 million people so I will get more exposure than I've ever experienced before. I am truly honored and grateful to Ian Knowles of  "10 Ten Media" for giving me this opportunity. The magazine was very pleased with the end product so all went about as well as you could expect.

Tonight I had a hard time trying to decide who to caricature. I searched for a couple of hours before coming across a picture of Tom Cruise with a great expression but not the best quality image. I got spoiled on those high resolution images for the magazine. I'm posting the original source photo below.

Unscheduled Blog Post ~ FHM Magazine Commission

Update on FHM Magazine commission: I am on the forth image of the series now, but I just got an email from the magazine saying they love what I've done so far, so much so that they are adding a fifth image to the job. It will now be a 5-image feature story. The image is a link to the FHM web site.

FHM Men's Magazine Commission

Click image to view FHM magazine online
Just a quick note to let everyone know why I'm not posting work right now. I am halfway done with a five piece photo manipulated caricature commission for FHM magazine. It's a UK based company who owns a New York based men's magazine. It's a great opportunity. The magazine has a monthly subscription of 1.25 million. I will post the caricatures as soon as the owner gives me the ok. The image below is of the magazine and is also a link to FHM Magazine. Back to work, I have two more to do by tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Sylvester Stallone II

I'm making an unscheduled post early today. I wasn't pleased with the direction I went with the body of the first Stallone caricature so I did another version. Please give me your opinion. Thanks!

Sylvester Stallone

Tonight I have a caricature of Sylvester Stallone. I tried to go pretty extreme on this one. Not really sure how I feel about the outcome. The original source image I used is posted below.

Steven Spielberg

Tonight I have Steven Spielberg for you. I used this same image in a photo manipulation before but it wasn't a caricature. It's a great image although he is missing the top of his head, but that's easy enough to fix. I've posted that image below for comparison. Spielberg is a great subject and I really enjoyed this caricature. Glasses are always a bit of a challenge when doing photo-manipulated caricatures but I think this one came out ok. I'm not sure about the background. I may change that later. I was in a rush to get it finished before it got too late. Hope you like it.

Spike Lee

Tonight I decided on Spike Lee to caricature. I got a late start so this was a pretty quick one. I did have a really good image to work with though and that always makes it easier and a lot more fun. I've posted the original source image below for comparison.

Bill O'Reilly "Fair and Balanced"

I had a request tonight from a good friend to caricature Bill O'Reilly. It came at the perfect time because I was sitting here trying to decide who I was going to honor tonight. Hahaha. This is one for the Democrats. As Bill says; "We are fair and balanced". This is the first time I've done O'Reilly, so it was a lot of fun. I never really looked close at his features. He has a Nixon like nose and an enormous forehead. Sorry Bill. I think at some point I need to have "Miller Time" and caricature Fox News Contributor, Dennis Miller. He's nuts. I've posted the original source image below that I worked with for comparison. Well that's all for tonight. See you tomorrow!

Artist Feature ~ Roberto Ferri

Tonight I'm featuring Roberto Ferri, an artist who I came across on Facebook. I had never heard of him before but I'm no art scholar. I'm sure many of you know this artist well. I was completely blown away with this young man's talent. His work is absolutely amazing. I'm posting a short bio of the artist, a few of his many masterful paintings and a viseo. This is just a glimpse into this artist's work, so you will definitely want to visit his web site. The bottom image is a link to his beautifly designed web site to see more of his work and learn more about this incredible artist.
Roberto Ferri was born in Taranto, Italy in 1978. In 1996 he graduated from the “Lisippo” art high school in Taranto. He began studying painting on his own and, after moving in Rome in 1999, he embarked upon an in-depth analysis of antique painting, from the early sixteenth to the late nineteenth century. In particular, he began dedicating himself to the art of Caravaggio and the academic painters (Jaques-Louis David, Jean Auguste, Dominique Ingres, Anne-Louis Girodet, Jean –Louis Theodoe Gericault, Charles Gleyre, William-Adolfe Bouguereau etc.). In 2006 he earned his degree, with the highest grade, from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, in the Stage Design course. During his first Three years he studied with Gaetano Castelli, and his last year with Francesco Zito.

I hope you enjoyed.
