The "Black" Baron

Tonight I got frustrated with that Tennis magazine job...poor source pics. Anyhow, I decided to finish up "The Black Baron". The sneak peak I posted yesterday. Obviously Obama was the perfect fit. This was a pretty intense manipulation. I did a good bit of research on The Red Baron to try and assemble a uniform that looked authentic. I used a mess of source images on this one. I totally lost count. I literally spliced pieces of leather together to make his coat and there was a lot of texture reproduction. It's about 95% complete. I see several little things that need tweaking but I'll do that later.

I hope you enjoyed. Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

  1. Another fantastic piece Rodney. Having never attempted a photomanipulation I have no idea how you create your work . I'd love to see a tutorial at some point if you get the time.

  3. Hi Rodney,
I love your work. And as Steve mentioned above - it would be great to see a video tutorial to see you work.
I also wondered how long each one takes to do?
    Keep up the great work,
    Richard

  4. Thanks so much Richard. I intend on making a tutorial at some point and this is the place to find it. I'm still refining my techniques and learning every day. My process is totally different than it was a month ago, so I need to figure it out first before I can try to teach someone else. As far as how long. I spend 2 to 4 hours on a head caricature and the rest depends. This one took 3 days. It was very intense. I had to recreate the Red Baron's uniform after doing a half a day of research on him.
